Permission to Engage in an Activity Other than Those Permitted by the Status of Residence Previously Granted 

A status of residence of "Student" is granted to allow you to study at a university and does not permit employment.
If international students are required to take on part-time work in order to help pay their tuition and living expenses, they must apply for Permission to engage in an activity other than those permitted by the status of residence previously granted  from the Immigration Services Agency of Japan.

Taking on part-time work without this permission can result in a criminal penalty or deportation. Working in the adult entertainment business is not permitted either.
It is illegal to start work before receiving permission for activities not permitted under your status of residence. Be sure to get this permission before starting any work.

  How to apply for Permission to engage in an activity other than those Permitted by the status of residence previously granted 

o obtain permission for activities not stated in your status of residence, you must prepare the required documents below and go to the Immigration Services Agency of Japan to apply.
*Please apply for (renew) Permission to engage in an activity other than those permitted by the status of residence previously granted at the same time as when you extend your period of stay.

Important
・The maximum number of hours that you can do for part-time work is 28 hours per week. (During the university’s spring and summer holidays, you can work up to 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.)
・You cannot do part-time work during a leave of absence.
