Bibliography of 2011

We are compiling the IASIL bibliography for the year 2011 (publications from January to December), to be published in the next issue of the Journal of Irish Studies.
Please send a bibliography of your publications to Yoko Kubo by the end of March, 2012. The bibliography can include books, articles, and translations. The guidelines have been greatly revised so please check them carefully as described below:

 

 

IASIL Japan Bibliography 2011: Guidelines for submissions

 

 

General Points

 

1.      The bibliography can include books, articles (in journals, collections of essays or conference papers and the like), and translations on individual Irish writers and on Irish literatures and theatre more generally.

 

2.      Any items missed from previous years can be included.  Just give the year of publication if not 2011.

 

 

Editorial Instructions

 

3.      For each item, please use Times New Roman and 12 point throughout, with the first line left-hand justified (not centred); for example:

 

MURRAY, Ciaran, Disorientalism: Asian Subversions, Irish Visions, Asiatic Society of

Please Note:

(a)    Author’s surname in capital letters (Japanese names: no comma between the family name and given name. Non-Japanese names: give surname first, comma, then given name.).

(b)   Single inverted commas for articles, and use ' rather than ’.

(c)    Book titles should be always in italics, whether it is included in an article title nor not. 

(d)   Include the 'in' before the journal title, volume and issue number.

(e)    All journal names should go in italics.

(f)    Insert a space after pp.; note the guidelines for page numbers: 60-85, 60-7; 123-35, 462-6, and so on. 

(g)   For all Irish Studies journals in Japan, including the Journal of Irish Studies, there is no need any details, such as: (Bulletin of the X Society of Japan), as there will be a key at the beginning of the Bibliography.

(h)   Year of publication is not included, unless it is not 2011.

 

 

4.      For articles and books in Japanese, add a rough English translation of the title after a slash; for example:

SATO Yoko, 'Mugen no Jirenma: The Dreaming of the Bones no Hyosho Kozo / The Dilemma of Visions: The Symbolic Structure of The Dreaming of the Bones', in Yeats Studies, 41, pp.13-30.

FUROMOTO Taketoshi, ed., Ireland/Celt Bunka wo manabu hito no tameni / For those who study Irish/Celtic Culture, Sekaishisosha (Kyoto), 332.

 

Please Note:

(a) For articles, the original title should be in italics, but not the translation; for books, both titles should be in italics.  There should be a space before and after the slash.

(b) Follow the Hepburn system. Ex. Not ti but chi; not tu but tsu, etc.

(c) Do not use mqcrons such as ∧ or − over vowels in order to indicate vowel length.

(d) English names should be spelled in English; Do not transcribe into Romaji even though the article is written in Japanese: Ex. Not: Yeitsu Shi ni okeru, but: Yeats Shi ni okeru

(e) Do not write the words “In Japanese”: If your paper/book is in Japanese, it will be obvious from the translation at the beginning of your entry. If your publication is in English, this will be clear from the absence of a translation, so do not add the words “In English”:

 

 

5.      Within single inverted commas you should use double quotation marks, as in:

6.      If an author has written more than one book and/or article, the second does not have the author’s name.  A long dash and comma will suffice; as in:

 

FITZSIMONS, Andrew, ed. Thomas Kinsella: Prose Occasions 1951-2006, Carcanet

Press (Manchester), 227. 

——, 'Dual Tradition and the Individual Talent: T. S. Eliot and Thomas Kinsella', in T. S.

7.      Where there are several editors or authors, punctuation and initialling should be as follows:

 

MOODY, T.W., MCDOWELL, R.B., & WOODS, C.J., eds., The Writings of Theobald Wolfe Tone 1763-98, Oxford UP (Oxford).

 

Please Note: If there are more than three authors, use 'et al.'

 

 

8.      Abbreviations, especially for journals and publishers, are acceptable.  Commonly-accepted abbreviations such as PMLA, ELH, IUR, plus OUP, CUP, and more generally UP after any university press should be used.  However, do not use abbreviations that readers would not normally know. Always give the locations, even if it appears obvious, i.e., Cork UP (Cork).

 

 

Deadline for entries to be submitted for inclusion in the 2011 Bibliography, published in the Journal of Irish Studies XXVII (2012): March 31, 2012.
