The literatures of Ireland have been studied and discussed in Japan since the 1920s, when the sense of an Irish as opposed to an English canon seems to have first reached these shores. Today, IASIL Japan is the main forum and the largest Irish Studies association in Japan, but there are a good number of smaller but equally energetic societies devoted to the study of specific Irish writers.
