皆さま、新年おめでとうございます。
昨年は、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大の中で、ご心配、ご苦労の多い一年であったことと存じます。そのような状況の中でも、武蔵野大学の教育研究活動にあたたかいご支援を賜りましたことに心より感謝、御礼申し上げます。新型コロナウイルスの早期の終息を願いつつ、本年が皆さまにとりまして平和で安穏な一年となりますことを念じております。
授業の実施形態については、2020年度は当初の全面オンラインから徐々に対面授業を再開してまいりましたが、2021年度においては感染拡大防止対策を徹底しつつ、できる限り対面で授業を実施していきたいと考えております。

2021年、武蔵野大学は2050年に向けた未来を担う人材を輩出するため、日本初のアントレプレナーシップ学部を開設するとともに、全学の共通基礎課程を刷新します。まず、2021年4月には、武蔵野大学に日本初のアントレプレナーシップ学部（武蔵野EMC: Entrepreneurship Musashino Campus）が誕生します。アントレプレナーシップ（起業家精神）とは、高い志と倫理観に基づき、失敗を恐れずに踏み出し、新たな価値を見出し、創造していくマインドです。武蔵野大学アントレプレナーシップ学部は「自分の思考と行動で、世界をより良い場所にできると本気で信じる人を増やす」ことを目指します。多数の現役実務家教員が、社会の最前線をキャンパスに持ち込み、すべてが実践とつながる教育を展開します。1年次は全員が寮生活。感性・知恵・響創力を磨き合う中で、共同して『ことを成す』たくましき実践人を育てていきます。

また、2021年度には、全学の共通基礎課程を刷新し「武蔵野INITIAL」がスタートします。今、武蔵野大学で学んでいる学生の皆さんが、社会の中核として活躍していく2050年の未来に向けて、世界の諸課題を担い解決していく人材となってもらうために必要な基礎的学びと実践力を養うことが目的です。このプログラムには①文理を超えて「AI×専門」のデジタル人材を輩出していくためのサブメジャー情報科目群「AI活用エキスパート」②本学のブランドステートメント「世界の幸せをカタチにする。」に基づいて2030年に向けた国連のSDGsの取り組みを推進するため、SDGsの理念を学び、自ら問題意識を持って主体的に学ぶ姿勢と実践力を身に付ける「Creating Happiness Program （CHP）」③実際の社会を見て、体験し、自らの専門の学びの有用性を感じ、将来のキャリア選択のきっかけとしていく「フィールド・スタディーズ」などの科目群が含まれています。武蔵野大学の教養教育は、単なる一般教養ではなく、全学のディプロマ・ポリシー「アクティブな知」を獲得し、創造的に思考・表現する力を備えて、世界の課題に立ち向かう」を達成していくための実践的な教養教育を目指しています。

学部教育の充実とともに、高度な専門的な知識や技術が必要とされる時代において、大学院の充実・発展も本格的に推進する必要があります。2021年4月からは、大学院データサイエンス研究科修士課程、大学院法学研究科ビジネス法務専攻博士後期課程、大学院工学研究科数理工学専攻博士後期課程など、時代のニーズに即応した大学院を開設し、教育、研究の質も抜本的に充実させていく予定です。

本学のこれらの教育改革の礎には、生きとし生けるものの幸せを願う仏教精神に基づいた人格教育があります。学祖高楠順次郎博士は「理想が高まるに従って人格が高まり、人格が高まるに従って高い理想が現出する」と述べ、人格向上の教育を掲げられました。武蔵野大学に集う学生、教員、職員、卒業生をはじめ、すべての縁に結ばれた人々が、本学のブランドステートメント「世界の幸せをカタチにする。」を心にとめ、ともにその具現化の取り組みを進めていきたいと思います。本学では、2019年3月に「武蔵野大学SDGs実行宣言」を発表しました。「武蔵野大学しあわせ研究所」を中心とする全学的取り組みに加えて、各学部学科大学院研究科においても宣言を発表し、独自の取り組みを進めていく活動を展開中です。本年はさらにその取り組みを全学的に加速してまいります。

おかげさまで、武蔵野大学は1924年の創立から97周年を迎えることができました。4月のアントレプレナーシップ学部や大学院の開設に伴い、12学部20学科13大学院研究科となり、学生数では10,000人を超える総合大学へと発展を続けております。いよいよ3年後の2024年には100周年を迎えます。本学の発展を支えてこられた先人たちの願いを再確認しつつ、次の100年を見据えた長期的なパースペクティブの中で、100周年記念事業の具体化に取り組んでまいります。

武蔵野大学は、建学の精神を基礎に据えつつ、絶えざる改革と成長、発展を目指し、2050年を眺望した第一次長期計画MU VISION 2030（2020～2030年度）を推進中です。世界の人々とともに「世界の幸せをカタチにする。」ために、今後とも教育研究活動を充実させてまいります。本年も引き続き、ご指導・ご鞭撻を賜りますよう、心よりお願い申し上げます。

I offer our greetings to you in this New Year, 2021.

Last year was full of unexpected challenges and concerns defined by the COVID-19 pandemic (Coronavirus). I would like to thank you all for your warm support and encouragement as we made every effort to continue our teaching and research activities. We pray for an end to COVID-19 as soon as possible. We also wish you a safe and peaceful year this year.

During 2020 our classes moved to online in the early stages of the pandemic with a view to resuming regular classes as advice and circumstances permitted. We hope that we will be in a position to resume normal classes during 2021, only when it is safe to do so.

In 2021, as part of our 2050 plan which aims to prepare graduates with vision, and readiness for the future, we will establish a new Faculty, and a revised University-wide common curriculum.

In April 2021, the University will establish Japan’s first Faculty of Entrepreneurship, ‘Musashino EMC: Entrepreneurship Musashino Campus’. In establishing this new faculty, our intention is to embrace the spirit of entrepreneurial mind—to engender high aspirations and ethical values, to not fear failure (but learn from it) and to lead. The Faculty will aim to ‘encourage people to believe that we can make a better world, through our thinking and actions’. The Faculty staff will include those working at the cutting edge of these new skills and workplaces and bring that knowledge to the campus, establishing a true nexus between educational theory and real-life practice. To encourage an educational environment where budding entrepreneurs can realize their full potential, in their first-year of study, students will work and learn together on-campus in a unique arrangement, offering a foundation to develop and finesse our key principles of sensitivity, wisdom and creativity.

In the new academic year, we will unveil our revised common curriculum, Musashino INITIAL. A key pillar of our teaching outlook at Musashino University is to educate students to think ahead to 2050, a time when they will most likely be at the center of shaping their society. We aim to prepare students to meet the anticipated (and unanticipated) challenges in the future, by equipping them the necessary skills and insight. The revised program includes firstly, a new sub-major, ‘Applied-AI Expert’ encouraging all students, in the sciences and humanities, to skill themselves in the latest AI technology. Secondly, in furthering our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in 2021 we begin to incorporate these goals into our teaching, starting with the ‘Creating Happiness Program’ (CHP), with a two-fold purpose of not only making students aware of the SDGs but also as a way to realize our Brand Statement of ‘Creating Peace and Happiness for the World’ in a real and practical way. Thirdly, we are stepping up our Field Studies program, embedding it in the curriculum to give students an opportunity to combine their academic studies with a range of off-campus experiences, offering a new avenue to engage both at University and in the community.
 
At Musashino University our liberal arts education aims to offer a practical education and is guided by our Academic Policies which ‘seek to attain “active knowledge”, through creative thinking and strength of expression, in tackling current issues’.

In 2021, we will be adding further strength to our graduate education and research. Together with our commitment to undergraduate education, it is essential in these times to provide a high degree of specialist knowledge and expertise and to this end we continue to enrich and develop our graduate school opportunities. Starting in April, new postgraduate programs in data science, business law and mathematical engineering will commence as part of our graduate education designed to meet contemporary needs.

Our teaching philosophy, founded on key aspects of Buddhist spirituality which include desiring happiness in all living beings, continues to underpin our approach to education. Our University’s founder, Dr. Junjiro Takakusu, an internationally renowned Buddhist scholar believed that ‘the character of a person is built when he or she has lofty ideals, and having a stronger character in turn brings about the emergence of even loftier ideals’. We believe all members of our University community—from our students, our academic and administrative staff, our graduates to everyone who has engaged with us in some way—carries with them the ambition to desire to realize our motto, ‘Creating Peace and Happiness for the World’. In March 2019, the University committed to supporting the United Nations SDGs agenda through the ‘Musashino University Declaration in support of SDGs’. Beginning with our Creating Happiness Incubation, a cross-faculty, inter-disciplinary research institute, all faculties, departments and graduate schools have similarly made declarations in support of SDGs and are in the process of realizing these goals through their teaching and research activities. We anticipate even greater uptake and engagement in the coming year.

As we approach our centenary in 2024, we can look back on our achievements and look forward to continued growth. In this, our 97^th year, with the establishment of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship, we will have grown to 12 faculties, 20 departments and 13 graduate schools hosting more than 10,000 students, our development as a University continues. Our centenary is just three years away. We reflect on those who came before us, who supported us and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining a long-term perspective for the next 100 years, as we make our plans to commemorate this important milestone.

Musashino University prides itself on its fundamental teaching philosophy based on Buddhist principles. As part of this approach to growth and renewal, we are implementing our long-term plan MU VISION 2030 (from 2020 to 2030). Together with the greater world community, and for ‘Creating Peace and Happiness for the World’, we will be making every effort to continue our vital education and research activities.

各位朋友，新年快乐！

由于新冠肺炎的感染不断扩大，去年是一个多灾多难的一年。在这种情况下，大家对武藏野大学的教育研究活动给予了大力支援，对此我由衷地表示感谢。期盼新冠肺炎的流行早日结束，同时也祝愿大家在新的一年里平平安安，万事如意。

关于授课的实施方式，2020年度从最初的线上授课逐渐地恢复课堂授课，在2021年度，我们将全面贯彻防疫对策，尽可能地实施课堂授课。

2021年，武藏野大学为了面向2050年培养肩负未来的人才，开设了日本第一个创业学院，同时也改革了全校的通识课程。首先，2021年4月，武藏野大学将会创建日本第一所创业学院。所谓创业精神，就是指以远大的志向和道德准则为基础、不畏艰难险阻奋勇迈出脚步、探索并创造新价值的精神。武藏野大学创业学院将以“让更多人相信，通过自己的智慧和行动开创新世界”为目标。多位在职企业家导师，将会把产业最前沿的知识带进校园，开展产学相结合的实践教育活动。入学第一年，所有学生将会在学校宿舍集体生活，在磨练感性、智慧以及创造力的过程中，共同培养“实践型”人才。

2021年度，我们将对全校的通识课程进行改革，并开始“武藏野INITIAL”课程。为使现在就读于武藏野大学的学生们到2050年能成为建设社会的核心，并肩负和解决世界上各种难题的人才，我校以培养必要的基础知识和实践能力为目的，开设了此通识课程。本课程包括以下3项内容。

1.为了培养出文理兼备的“AI+专业”的数字化时代人才，我校设立了副修计算机应用课程“AI 应用专业”。

2.基于我校的品牌宣言“创造幸福、感动世界”，为了推进2030年的联合国SDGs（可持续发展）计划，努力学习可持续发展理念，培养学生自觉发现课题的意识，积极向上的态度和实践能力，我们设立了“开创幸福（CHP）”的课程。

3.观察现实社会，体验并感受自己的专业知识的有效性，为将来的职业生涯做准备，我校设立了“社会实践”等科目。

武藏野大学的素质教育不是普通的通识教育，是为了达成全校的毕业方针“获得启发性知识，培养创造性思考和表现能力，解决世界课题”而实施的素质教育。

在需要高度专业知识与技术的时代，有必要充实研究生课程。从2021年4月开始，开设了大数据工程硕士课程、法学研究科商务法专攻博士课程、工学研究科数理工学专业博士课程等适应新时代需求的研究生课程，并将充实和提升教育和研究水平。

本校这些教育改革的基石，是以祈求所有生灵幸福的佛教精神为基础的人格教育。创始人高楠顺次郎博士说：“理想远大，人格就高尚；人格高尚，理想就更远大。”提倡塑造高尚人格的教育。武藏野大学的学生、教师、职员、毕业生等，所有因缘而汇聚于本校的人们应该牢记“创造幸福、感动世界”这一理念，共同努力并付诸于行动。我校在2019年3月发布了武藏野大学SDGs（可持续发展）实施宣言。以武藏野大学幸福研究所为中心，全校所有院系以及研究生院都发表了各自的宣言并开展各项活动。今年将更加努力推进这项活动。

在各位同仁的努力和社会各界的支持之下，武藏野大学迎来了自1924年创立以来第97个纪念日。随着4月开设的创业学院和研究生院的成立，武藏野大学将成为12个学院、20个学科、13个研究生院研究科、学生人数超过1万人的综合大学，并且还将持续发展壮大。在3年后的2024年，我们将要迎来本校创建100周年华诞。我们将继承开创本校的先辈们的愿望，同时着眼于下一个100年的长期发展，致力于实施庆祝100周年的各项纪念活动。

武藏野大学以建校精神为基础，以不断改革和发展、壮大为目标，正在推进展望2050年的第一个十年规划——MU VISION 2030（武藏野愿景2030）。与各国人民共同努力，以“创造幸福、感动世界”为目标，继续充实教育研究活动。衷心地希望今年诸位能一如既往地指导、鞭策我们武藏野大学教育事业的发展。
