Notice and Policies for the Pneumonia Associated with the New Coronavirus (for Students and Faculty Members)

There are currently reports of outbreaks of the pneumonia associated with the new coronavirus at multiple locations centering around Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
There has also been concern about the spread of the infections as several instances of infection have already been found in Japan.

In this regard, you are requested to abide by the decisions made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to increase the risk level of the entire area of Hubei Province, China to Level 3 indicating that “you are urged to avoid all travel to the area regardless of purpose (suspension of travel to the area)” on January 24, 2020 and the risk level of the other areas in China to Level 2 indicating that “you are advised to avoid non-essential travel to the area.”

We have established the following basic policies on overseas travel and returning to home countries. Please note that these policies are subject to being updated depending on developments in the pneumonia situation. So please keep yourself updated and calmly follow these policies.

1.Future overseas travel

No students are allowed to travel to China in principle and faculty members are requested to refrain from traveling to China.
Those students and faculty members who have symptoms such as fever and cough during overseas travel should first present themselves to a local medical institution. Then, students are requested to promptly report the diagnosis results to the health center of their campus and faculty members are to do the same by reporting to their department.
Exchange students whose acceptance periods have expired are requested to follow the instructions of the International Relations Office.

2.When coming to Japan from China

1) If you have symptoms such as fever or cough when returning or first coming to Japan, be sure to report to the quarantine officer at the airport, etc., and then to your department.

2) Students are requested to immediately report the areas where they stayed, dates of returning or entry to Japan, and health conditions at that time to the health center of their campus and faculty members are to do the same by reporting to their department.
Items to be reported: whether or not you have symptoms such as fever and cough as well as the use of antipyretic and cough medications

3) Students who have symptoms such as fever and cough that visited a medical institution during overseas travel are requested to promptly report the diagnosis results to the health center of their campus and faculty members are to do the same by reporting to their department.

3.After coming to Japan

1) Be sure to watch for the onset of symptoms such as fever and cough (record health conditions and temperature) for 2 weeks after returning to (entering) Japan. Carefully observe your health conditions and stay at home unless absolutely necessary.

2) If you have symptoms such as fever or cough, first consult an inquiry counter or healthcare centers without directly going to a medical institution and then report to one of the health centers on either campus in the case of students and to your department in the case of faculty staff.

4.Other issues and treatment in the case of changes in health condition
