[IMPORTANT] Notice Regarding Learning (Extension of Online Sessions) until the end of July, including the Second Term (May 29-July 16)

The government recently expanded its state of emergency nationwide to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. In response, Musashino University is extending its online learning period which was scheduled only for the First Term, to the end of July, including the Second Term (May 29-July 16)
(If the situation improves and face-to-face teaching in classrooms on campus is deemed feasible, we will make an announcement approximately two weeks prior to transitioning to face-to-face teaching.)

I am deeply disappointed by the fact that opportunities for students to meet one another and interact with faculty will be limited to online environments for nearly half a year due to the extension of online sessions. However, now that the possibility of a collapse of the health care system all over Japan due to increased infections is arising, and based on the fact that reducing face-to-face contact helps save lives, we decided that there are things that need to be respected more than offering face-to-face learning opportunities on campus in order to overcome this situation. We ask for your understanding regarding this matter.

As announced earlier, Musashino University’s basic policy for preventing the spread of novel coronavirus infections consists of the following: (1) avoid the risk that students and other parties related to the university get infected, (2) fulfill our social responsibility to minimize the spread of the novel coronavirus in Greater Tokyo, and (3) minimize the loss our students suffer in terms of education and continue to provide the same education as before as much as possible.

While the novel coronavirus is continuing to spread, under the basic policy of minimizing the loss our students suffer in terms of education and continuing to provide the same education as before as much as possible, we began offering online sessions in April. In that process, we recognized that, among other things, the equipment needed for online teaching and the teleworking environment for faculty members (which is essential for supporting such learning) are not keeping up. Currently, faculty members at Musashino University are working as one to solve each problem while exploring new equipment and investments that can improve the environment for prolonged online learning and guarantee the quality of learning. We ask for your continued understanding and cooperation regarding this matter.

I am grateful that everyone associated with Musashino University is considering this global challenge to be their own, and are contributing to ending this situation by taking appropriate actions with awareness.
