【IMPORTANT NOTICE】Classes and campus activity during the fourth State of Emergency commencing Monday 12 July 2021

To students, staff and member of the University Community
 
The Japanese Government has indicated it will reinstate a State of Emergency (SoE) in Tokyo from 12 July to 22 August 2021. This notice outlines the University’s response to the Declaration for the duration of the SoE, particularly in regard to classes, examinations and summer intensive courses. 
12-16 July 2021
(Week 7, Term 2, including in-class examinations)
  • Since it is the last week of term, face-to-face classes and examinations will be held as scheduled. However, this is on the understanding all members of the University community, students and staff, will maintain strict protocols regarding the containment of the virus.
  • Please note, some classes or examinations may be shifted to online mode.  Please check for messages from your instructors regarding the latest information on your classes.
  • If you have concerns about attending class in person, please consult your class instructor.
Information regarding Summer Intensive courses, commencing 17 July 2021.
  • In principle, these classes will be held on line.
  • However, there may be some exceptions, where classes must be held in face-to-face mode, such as conducting experiments, projects or practical classes. All these classes will be held with strict adherence to the guidelines for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. Please follow the instructions from your class instructor.

Access to the University campuses and activities on campus will be subject to the following guidelines.

Entry to campus
  • With the exception of some class commitments, you are asked to refrain from coming to campus, unless absolutely necessary.
  • Upon entering campus, all students and staff must check their temperature at the entrance points where thermal temperature cameras are installed.
  • Students must register attendance via your student card, so you are reminded to keep your card with you at all times.
  • You are reminded to review and adhere to the Guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19

  • l  As a general rule, all office enquiries will be undertaken via telephone during the hours of 10:00am and 3:00pm, and email at other times. We apologise for any inconvenience and ask for your understanding and cooperation on this matter.

On 7 July, Tokyo recorded a sudden spike in case numbers, 920 cases including the highly contagious Delta variant. These developments are concerning and we all have a responsibility to our University community and society at large, to prevent further contagion. We ask for your ongoing cooperation and consideration in these extraordinary circumstances. As always, your understanding is appreciated.
