When I came here, I didn't know what to expect to be honest. I was a little afraid.
What if I don’t get along with people? What if I can’t pass my courses? And what does the future hold for me?
Coming to a country like Japan, with such a different culture and people compared to Finland, felt both scary and exciting at the same time.
But that was exactly why I chose Japan - I wanted something new - something completely different from home. - Even other European countries didn’t feel different enough. – I wanted to step outside my comfort zone.
And this is what I got. But, from the very beginning, I felt welcome. The application process was smooth and soon as I arrived, I was taken care of. It was such a warm and safe landing in a new country.
After that, life started moving faster than I would have wanted. Everyday felt like a dream or a small adventure. Meeting new people, seeing this beautiful country, and really experiencing what Japan is like. Getting a chance to live here is something many people only dream about.
But what surprised me the most was not only Japan as a country – it was how much I changed myself.
Living here taught me to be more open, more patient, and more independent. I learned not overthink so much, to try new things, and to be open to the unknown. These are lessons Japan reminded me of every single day.
I also want to sincerely thank the teachers and the staffs at Musashino University. You supported us not only academically, but also personally. Studying in another country is not always easy, but you made it feel safe to try, to make mistakes, and to learn.
And to my friends and fellow students, thank you for the memories, the trips, conversations, and small every day moments that made this experience unforgettable.
When we return home, we won’t just take photos and souvenirs with us. – We will carry new ways of thinking, friendships that cross borders, and more confidence to face the unknown in the future.
And I think I speak on behalf of all the exchange students when I say: Thank you Musashino University for making this experience possible and giving us such a valuable opportunity to learn and grow. Thank you.
